"Happy music, from happy people, to make people happy", says Ava Charlie, a newcomer from Mainz, when asked about her music. Coming from a family of musicians, Ava has been on stage for 15 years, captivated over 3000 listeners in the support of the Buena Vista Social Club and won, in addition to the special prize of the Brandenburg Cultural Festival (2019) and the Palatinate Prize for Composition (2014), the international jazz and pop singing competition in Finsterwalde twice in a row (2017 & 2019). "It's a pleasure to watch her sing - she dives into the lyrics and music, sometimes somnambulistic, when her hands float gently as if they wanted to caress the air" (MAZ). In her music, she artfully combines tradition and modernity into light, feathery jazz. Her inspirations are taken from real life - personal experiences, the impressions of her journeys, but also the small things in life are what makes her compositions and lyrics so lifelike.
Live she is accompanied by her trio: "Lukas Moriz's piano tickles your ears like ice-cold champagne on your tongue" (MAZ after their first tour as part of the Brandenburg Cultural Festival (2020)). Also with her: Bastian Weinig (bass player of the HR Jazz Ensemble and scholarship holder of the German Music Council) and Axel Pape, longtime drummer of jazz legend Emil Mangelsdorff. Her debut album "Recipes" also features guests like Tony Lakatos on the saxophone, José J. Cortijo on percussions and Shai Maestro on piano.

The songs of “Recipes” make your mouth water. In "Blueberry Scone" Ava humorously sings about the addiction to sweet pastries and "La Lingua della Cucina" is about her love for Italian cuisine. Here she also demonstrates her speciality, the "vocal trumpet". In addition to her own compositions, it also includes the evergreen "Poinciana" in a new lyrical guise, a special arrangement of the classic "Volare" and her Italian translation of the well-known Gregory Porter song "Painted on Canvas''. "Recipes" is a menu for life and Ava has one for every mood and situation - like an evening with good friends, where everyone orders something different from the menu and all collectively try it.
