In the last five years a couple of albums by Jazz à la Flute (the last being “Essenza” with Lorenzo Petrocca on guitar) turned the attention to a remarkably gifted German lady with French roots who finally is achieving long overdue popular recognition: Isabelle Bodenseh, a musician who constantly amazes with her personality and performance. An improvising soloist and skillful composer with a sense of flowing melodic lines, a strong sense of rhythm, a wealth of playing techniques, and an extremely rich tonal palette on a variety of flutes, she is an all-encompassing musician whose combination of classical training, experience in modern and latin jazz, flamenco, salsa and more areas, and her curiosity to step beyond, allows her to tell her own stories.

Her roots lie in classical music,  she first studied orchestral music in Frankfurt, but very soon turned to jazz and Latin American music. She traveled to Los Angeles to study jazz flute with James Newton and subsequently received a DAAD scholarship to study Afro-Cuban music and Latin jazz in Havana, Cuba.

Since 2002, she has been a teacher in jazz flute and band conducting at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt and playing 800 concerts in various groups. In 2017 she founded the platform JAZZ À LA FLUTE and has since than toured Germany with over 90 JAZZ À LA FLUTE concerts, always carrying a whole arsenal of flutes (alto and bass flute), which she plays with stylistic confidence, virtuosity and a very personal sound.
