Katrin Scherer

Born in the rural town of Illingen/Saar.
She studied jazz saxophone and composition at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen and at Queens College in New York.
She works continuously on her own form of expression and writes music for numerous ensembles from chamber music to big band.
Katrin is a versatile artist with a lush tonal palette and great virtuosity. Her compositions possess an independent tonal language whose influences can be found beyond contemporary improvised music, referencing the compositional doctrines of the early 20th century, among others.
She is a border crosser between the different genres. In her projects, the complex compositions combine with a large repertoire of creative improvisations to form a homogeneous and lively entity.
Since 2007 she has released 9 productions on her own label green deer music (www.greendeermusic.de)

She is part of the creative and bustling young Cologne jazz scene, performs with her projects on national and international stages and also works as a dedicated music educator.
Together with saxophonist Sven Decker, she has regularly organized the Saxophoncamp, a jazz and improvisation workshop for saxophonists, since 2018.
From 2012 to 2020, she has held a teaching position for saxophone and didactics in Department 2 at Folkwang University of the Arts.
