Biography

Kerstin Haberecht was born 1988 in Karlsruhe and has been playing the saxophone since she was 9 years old. At an early age, she discovered her passion for big bands, jazz and improvisation as well as the joy of exchanging ideas with audiences and students.

Ever since her studies of jazz, she has become an integral part of the Rhine-Main jazz scene and, in addition to her artistic and teaching activities, she is involved in the board of the Mainz jazz collective ‘Tonkult e.V.’ as well as the Landesverband für Jazz und Improvisation in Rhineland-Palatinate ‘JAZZ RLP e.V.’ (regional association for jazz).

From 2008 to 2015, she studied jazz saxophone at the Hochschule für Musik (music college) in Mainz with Steffen Weber, Denis Gäbel and Thomas Bachmann and graduated in 2015 with the degree 'Master of Music'.

During her college years, she founded her quartet HABERECHT 4, with whom she released her debut album ESSENCE in 2016 as part of the Jazz Thing Next Generation series and has since presented herself as composer. In 2018, she started a duo project with guitarist Lukas Roos. She is also active in other projects (e.g. Jan Felix May & Band, PYU, Mainz 04 ...) as sidewoman with saxophone, flute and/or backing vocals.

Since 2016, she has been responsible for the concept and management of the department Rock Pop Jazz at the music school as part of the Weiterbildungszentrum (WBZ, advanced training centre) Ingelheim.
